This is a little update to a past post tutorial on how to manage comments. Where To Find Comment Settings | Blogger 101
Today’s post specifically is about how to block users in particular from commenting. There are other options in which you can put in specific words or users you want blocked, see Where To Find/Check Settings (scroll to Discussion Settings and you can moderate there.)
You need to go to your comment settings (see above post if you don’t know how). And go to the Spam section.
I’ve already filtered my spam. But this was a spam comment I was not happy with. Things to look for in a spam comment.
- Note the website. Does it sound or look like a website someone would normally be coming from? Many spam comments will try to look normal. They give a lot of praise but will say nothing of the actual material the post covers. Some look very deceiving. But look at the website it claims to be from. I’ve received sites from extraproxies, tractors, insurance, etc.
This spam comment tried to reply to a comment someone else sent me…
How to Block– First, if you ever get a comment in your notifications you do not like, you can spam the comment. The comment will not show on your post and instead go to your spam folder. How to block is very simple! Select your spam comment. See in the right-hand corner User Info.
Click on User Info and you will see the username, email, website, and IP address. Under these, you have a button that says Block User.
Click Block User and then you will see a screen appear that says the user is blocked. Delete the comment and you will receive no more comments from this IP address.
It is possible for you to receive the same spam comment, and possibly even the same website/username but it will never be from the same IP address.
I’ve noticed blocking users has diminished my spam comments. I still get them but not as much. (Remember to check the spam folder often, sometimes good comments get lost.)
I hope this is helpful to you! 🙂
