When using photos make sure to use photos under the Creative Commons license. Using any photo you want from the internet, even with credit, is not always allowed, and can be illegal.
Unless you know the photo is open to the public (Public Domain) and can be used under Creative Commons consider some other places to find photos.
Make sure you click on pictures and view owners of said pictures. Make sure you know what kind of license a picture has and if the person wants credit or not. Many pictures under Creative Commons do not require credit, but some do.
Using pictures from Pinterest you may not have permission to do so. Always know where the pictures original creator come from, and if you have permission.
Here are some sites I’ve found.
Flickr (Creative Commons Public Domain Area)
New Old Stock– Older photos from history free from copyright

Thanks for sharing the websites! I was trying to remember the name of the Unsplash one. Pixabay seems to be working well for me but it’s nice to have some other options 🙂

Yes, definitely. I used Pixabay for the longest time and then found I preferred Pexels. But it’s nice to have multiple options 🙂

Great post, T.R. Noble. I usually try and find pictures under the Creative Commons. Sometimes, though, I just find pictures online and then reference them at the bottom of my blog.

Most of the time referencing is fine as long as you don’t receive an email or message telling you to take down the photo. I’ve looked into it and people could sue if we don’t have permission, even when giving references. This doesn’t tend to be a problem most of the time of course, but it’s always safer to make sure every image is under creative commons. 🙂

Pixabay was the first one I started using too. Through other bloggers and looking around I heard about these ones. 🙂
