Girl, Listen | Poem

Excuse, excuse

Child

One answer after another

and yet you refuse.

You think he’ll change.

One day, maybe, he might.

But you put up with his strange,

and you’re shattered beyond fright.

Positive for him,

you’re a crutch.

But what’s he’s given you?

Not much.

Progress isn’t your job

that’s on him.

Ignore your heart sob.

Night continues grim.

Who are you?

I know you’re not happy.

Why wait?

Where’s your personality?

Pulled in deeper

as he digs his sin.

One last plea,

Girl, listen.

Do you have friends who are struggling in a relationship?

Have you ever felt like you don’t have the right words?
