I find it fitting that this is quote for the week. For those in America, we will be celebrating the Fourth of July. Our day of independence. A day of freedom.
“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”
Martin Luther King Jr, Letter From Birmingham Jail, April 16th, 1963
For a much progress we’ve made there is still so much to do.
In sociology, there’s a term called, “The Bystander Effect.” It’s when a problem happens, a robber enters a home, for example, and multiple neighbors are aware. But all the of people who are aware of the issue, turn their back and do nothing, believing one of the other neighbors will call the police.
The robber isn’t caught, stuff is stolen, and if there was anyone in the home, they may now be injured.
We can’t always rely on everyone else. If we see something happen, we need to do something about it.
Don’t turn a blind eye to the truth. We all need to become better people.
For those of us watching the fireworks later, be safe, be kind, and don’t be afraid to make a difference.
